You have choices. If you are willing to wait, you can watch a movie on devices ranging from your smartphone to that home theater you may have decked out with a maxed-out credit card. Maybe you stream your movie, helping to keep Jeff Bezos the richest man in the world or making one of Reed Hastings’ 5.5 million shares in Netflix more valuable.
If you are a real red-blood American, you know movies need to be seen on the big screen and boy howdy, you have choices there. There are shiny pennies everywhere—AMC (8,380 screens), Regal (2,954 screens), B & B (400 screens) and any number of corporate big boxes.
And then there’s us.
Our family owns three theaters in Illinois and we operate a fourth in Missouri. That’s 23 screens and we are closing in on AMC, but they don’t know it yet.
We’ve got them right where we want them. Yeah. That’s it…
We don’t aspire to be the biggest and we don’t answer to Wall Street. Our beat is Main Street, and since 2004 when the first Eagle launched from its nest, that has been the case. (True story: Eagle Theaters is named as a tribute to my dad’s shoe store that was in Robinson, Illinois for more than 50 years.)
So yeah, we are kind of proud of being hometown theaters, but we don’t expect you to show up at a tired old one screen with musty smells, seats from the Reagan Administration, and floors that stick to your shoes.
We WANT you to be an Eaglet, but we know we have to earn it.
We build and operate modern multiplexes in small markets. It isn’t easy, but it’s our life work. Sure, we are proud of being part of the Illinois communities of Robinson (five screens), Streator (six screens), and Clinton (five screens) and the Missouri community of Warrenton (seven screens). We live and breathe our small towns here in flyover country.
